Tulum: Part One

Tulum: Part One

Being a tropical baby I look for any chance to head for a beachy destination which is why we decided on Tulum, a beautiful beach town in México for a quick getaway. We stayed at this rustic boutique hotel Live Tulum for a day. Our royal swim up room was on the ground floor opening up to the pool with a private jacuzzi.

We reached mid day and set out to explore this balmy town after a quick dip in the pool. Tulum has this laid-back bohemian vibe with eco-chic resorts lined up by the beach and trendy restaurants and boutiques lined by the street.

After eating our hearts out of spicy mole at Restaurare (The food here is awesome, don’t miss Oyster mushroom ceviche), we got into Gitano for some post-dinner mezcal cocktails and dessert. The heavenly Guava cheesecake gets a special mention.

Next morning we headed to the Gran Cenote, a beautiful limestone cavern for our first snorkeling experience. It was magical to be in the greenish blue waters of the cenote with fishes and turtles swimming along.

We could have easily spent half a day here but it was time to fill our empty stomachs with delicious pasta by the beach. So off we went to Posada Margherita to enjoy lunch in this beachfront quaint set up. I would go back just for the bread!

To be continued….

Here are a few tips:

  • We rented a car from cancun airport and drove to Tulum (1.5 hrs). Its convenient to drive around town or to checkout the Mayan ruins or various cenotes around the area.
  • Its best to keep cash handy because most of the restaurants are cash only.
  • Be early at places like cenotes and Mayan ruins to avoid large crowds.
  • Make sure to keep it minimal makeup wise coz you don’t want to spend an entire hour decking up only to see it melt away in the heat and Tulum gets hot in the afternoon!
